Acupunture & Cupping

Acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine and treatment which involves inserting fine, sterilised, single-use needles into specific anatomic sites (acupoints) along the body’s energy pathway (meridians) to decongest blockages and promote the natural flow of energy (Qi). Other acupoint stimulation includes massage and cupping.

In Traditional Chinese medicine, the world comprises of ‘yin’ and ‘yang’ forces. When these forces reach an equilibrium, the body is at peace and healthy. Acupuncture has been used to trigger this balance to help with pain relief, aid in digestion, and improve sleep. Clinical studies have shown acupuncture to be an effective treatment for ailments such as migraine, musculoskeletal problems, and tennis elbow.

Cupping therapy employs small cups or bamboo jars to create localised suction devices. They are placed along the skin to create negative pressure, which draws up energy, loosens the muscles, sedates the nervous system, and encourages blood flow. The cupping technique is like an inverse version of massage, instead of applying pressure into the muscle, the suction cups gently draw them upwards. Just like acupuncture, cupping follows the lines of the meridian.
